March MFT Ingenious Inking: Mixed Media Madness!

Hi everyone!  Happy Tuesday!

Mixed media can be a little intimidating – once you begin piling up different textures, patterns, and colors though, you quickly realize how forgiving, and exciting, it can be. Mixed media projects are the perfect opportunity to experiment with the capabilities of your supplies and explore your creativity so this month, we’re using Hybrid Inks – the perfect choice for mixed media applications with it’s quick-dry, no-smudge formulation – in mixed media applications.

I must admit, I am a bit scared of Mixed Media, but I did have TONS of fun creating my cards for this challenge!

Print

For my first card, I really had fun with colors!  I started with a panel of Smooth White Card Stock and stamped it with the Typewriter Text Background using Black Licorice Hybrid Ink.  I then pulled out the Circle Grid Stencil and placed it on an angle.  I sponged on three different inks for an ombre look, Tropical Teal Hybrid Ink, Summer Splash Hybrid Ink and Sno Cone Hybrid Ink.  I did this on opposite end of the card, and I super love it.   The Hybrid Inks are so luscious!  I love how you can layer them!

I then pulled out the super fun LJD Circle Scribble Flowers set and randomly stamped flowers on the panel.  I used Bubblegum Hybrid Ink layered with Ripe Raspberry Hybrid Ink, Peach Bellini Hybrid Ink layered with Persimmon Hybrid Ink, and Lemon Chiffon Hybrid Ink layered with Orange Zest Hybrid Ink.  All of the leaves were stamped with Spearmint Hybrid Ink layered with Field Day Hybrid Ink.   I then pulled out the LJD Whimsical Wishes set and stamped stars randomly over the card panel.  When I was done layering on elements and Hybrid Inks, I sprayed the entire panel using MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist.  LOVE.

Print

I cut the panel using Blueprints 1 Die-namics and then trimmed it down to leave a space for a sentiment.  I layered the panel onto a panel of Smooth White Card Stock cut with Blueprints 2 Die-namics, and I stamped “SLOW DOWN, HAPPINESS IS TRYING TO CATCH YOU” from Totally Happy using Black Licorice Hybrid Ink.

On the inside, I cut two panels of Smooth White Card Stock using Blueprints 1 Die-namics and Blueprints 2 Die-namics.  I added the piece I trimmed off the front panel to the inside to tie the design together, and stamped another sentiment, “THINK HAPPY. BE HAPPY.” from Totally Happy using Black Licorice Hybrid Ink.

My second card has a softer, more elegant (I think!) look!

For this card, I started with a panel of Smooth White Card Stock and stamped it with the Romantic Script Background using Kraft Hybrid Ink.  I layered the Abstract Petals Stencil on top of the panel and then started to layer on ink, starting with Grapesicle Hybrid Ink, Wild Wisteria Hybrid Ink and Lavender Fields Hybrid Ink.  I LOVE how you can see the script through the ink!  I cut the panel using Blueprints 2 Die-namics and then trimmed it down further so that I could add a panel of Lavender Fields Prestige Card Stock and a small strip of Ranger Silver Foil Card Stock.

I created the butterfly using the Fancy Butterflies Die-namics, cut from Wild Wisteria Prestige Card Stock and Translucent Vellum.  I sprayed the bottom butterfly (the one cut from Wild Wisteria Prestige Card Stock) using the MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist.  I attached them together and added some rhinestones to the body of the butterfly.  I also added rhinestones to the center of each stenciled flower.  The sentiment panel was cut from Smooth White Card Stock using the Stitched Fishtail Flags STAX Die-namics, and I stamped “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” from LJD Whimsical Wishes using Lavender Fields Hybrid Ink.

Print

On the inside, I cut another panel of Smooth White Card Stock using Blueprints 2 Die-namics, and added a strip of the stamped and stenciled panel, along with another strip of Ranger Silver Foil Card Stock.  I stamped another sentiment from LJD Whimsical Wishes, “ANYONE THAT KEEPS THE ABILITY TO SEE BEAUTY, NEVER GROWS OLD” using Lavender Fields Hybrid Ink.
