March MFT Creative Challenge – Stylin’ With Stencils!

Hi everyone!  Happy Tuesday!

Welcome to the March MFT Creative Challenge!  Stencils may not get the same recognition as stamps and dies but believe me, they simply can’t be beat in terms of versatility. Their flexibility and durability make them the perfect choice for adding color and texture with any number of mediums and with close to 70 different options in two different sizes available in the MFT shop, you’re sure to find the perfect design for your next project. This month, our team is inspiring you to play with stencils.

I had so much fun playing with stencils for today’s challenge, that I created two cards!

Print

My first card is a birthday card to keep on hand…my 8 year old constantly has birthday parties to attend, and I am always scrambling for a card!  Nothing says 8 year old more than rainbows and iPods!  I started with a panel of Smooth White Card Stock cut with Blueprints 11 Die-namics.  I then laid the Equalizer Stencil on top, taped it down with some 3M tape, and started to sponge on colors.  I wanted a soft rainbow, not your normal ROYGBIV.  I started with Cotton Candy Premium Dye Ink and then added Ripe Raspberry Premium Dye Ink to the bottom for a darker effect.  I then sponged on Peach Bellini Premium Dye Ink, making the bottom darker with Coral Crush Premium Dye Ink.  Next up I used Lemon Chiffon Premium Dye Ink and Daffodil Premium Dye Ink.  For the greens, I used Spearmint Premium Dye Ink and Green Room Premium Dye Ink.  Lastly, I used Sno Cone Premium Dye Ink and added Summer Splash Premium Dye Ink on the bottom.  Before removing the stencil, I sprayed the panel using MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist

I popped this panel up with Jody Boosters onto a panel of Grout Gray Card Stock, cut with Blueprints 2 Die-namics, and stamped with the Diagonal Striped Background using Grout Gray Premium Dye Ink.

I used the MP3 Player Die-namics to create the iPod.  I cut it from Ranger Silver Foil Card Stock and Smooth White Card Stock.  I added accents to the earpods using Grout Gray Premium Dye Ink.  The heart stamped on the “screen” was inked first with Cotton Candy Card Stock and then dabbed a bit with Ripe Raspberry Premium Dye Ink.  I then stamped the panel and sprayed it with MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist.  I cut a strip of Translucent Vellum and stamped “ROCK ON” from LLD Keep On Rockin’ using Versamark and then embossed it with black embossing powder.  I added a trio of rhinestones to finish the front.

On the inside, I cut another panel of Smooth White Card Stock using Blueprints 11 Die-namics.  I stamped “HAVE A ROCKIN’ BIRTHDAY” from LLD Keep On’ Rockin using the same inks that I used on the front.  This was made SUPER easy by using the MISTI to stamp the sentiment.  I stamped the music note and heart with two inks each for an ombre look.

Print

My second card uses the same color scheme as my first card.  This was super fun to create too!

For this card I used the awesome Concentric Circles Stencil!  I cut a panel of Smooth White Card Stock using Blueprints 1 Die-namics, and then placed the Concentric Circles Stencil on top and taped it down with some 3M tape.  I started to sponge on the ink, using the same inks that I used on my first card, making sure to ink the darker colors in the center of each circle, and then go softer going outward.  Before removing the stencil, I again sprayed the panel using MIX-ables Sheer Shimmer Mist.

I cut a panel of Black Licorice Card Stock and stamped a sentiment from Totally Happy using Versamark.  I then embossed the sentiment using white embossing powder.  I added a small strip of Ranger Silver Foil Card Stock underneath the sentiment panel, as well as a mat cut with Blueprints 2 Die-namics.  I added a trio of rhinestones to finish off the front of the card.
